Year 12 ATAR planning

Import or enter subject scores, read a RoxWhy ATAR range with caveats, then study the subject that actually moves the estimate.

ATAR talk gets loud and exact. RoxWhy is useful when it stays honest: a range, a scaling direction, and a next study action. It is not an official calculator and it cannot promise a rank.

You will know it worked when you can point to one subject whose improvement would move the range, and you have a study block for that subject this week.

Scholar plans include this study tool. If you see an upgrade gate, use Pricing or stay with Chat and Academic Tracker on Starter.

1. Get current scores in one place

Open Academic Tracker.

Create this term and add the subjects you are actually studying. Enter recent assessment percentages, or use Import your school report if you have a PDF or photo. Review every extracted row before you save. Conflicts default to keeping your existing values.

You do not need a perfect tracker. You need current, honest scores.

2. Run the estimator for your state

Open ATAR Estimator.

Choose QLD, NSW, ACT, or VIC. Prefill from the tracker if offered, or enter scores / score ranges by subject.

Read all of:

  • the estimated ATAR range
  • eligibility and which subjects were used
  • scaling direction and contribution
  • confidence, data freshness, and caveats

If you only have raw ACT percentages, the tool may ask for scaled course scores. That is a real limit, not a bug.

Advanced forecasting can show likelihood bands such as P10, P50, and P90. Treat those as planning bands. Save a forecast if you want to compare later. Opt-in before any de-identified model-improvement use.

Full rules: ATAR Estimator.

3. Study the subject that moves the range

The useful question is not "what ATAR will I get?" It is "which subject is dragging the range, and what can I practise this week?"

Open Study Command Centre. If an ATAR leverage item appears, start there. Otherwise pick the tracker subject furthest below target.

Then do one of:

How to talk about the number at home

Parents: ask "what is the range and the weak subject?" not "what ATAR will you get?" Official ATARs depend on the cohort, final exams, and authority scaling. A mid-year score cannot become a guaranteed offer.

Students: do not change subjects on an estimate alone. Use it to aim study. Confirm subject selection and university prerequisites with the school.
