Student playbook

Treat RoxWhy as a study partner that works from your material, not as a search box that writes the assignment. Bring the question or notes, do the thinking, then check the result against the course.

If you only do one thing after your first 15 minutes, pick the row that matches this week and follow that scenario to the end. Addresses for every tool are in Find your tools.

Choose your situation

Which tool for which job

Open Today and choose Ask a quick question, or open Ask Roxy and choose Quick help. Both open RoxWhy Chat at /app/learn/chat. That is a one-off explanation. It does not create a Tutor. Stay in Chat if the job is small.

Use Deep Solve when the question needs planning, checking, or several steps. Ask it to wait while you try the next line.

Use Quiz when you think you already understand and want to find the holes.

Use Learning Pack when you want a concept map and a quiz from the same topic. Check the map first, then sit the quiz.

Use Visualize when a cycle, timeline, or diagram would make the idea click.

Use Deep Research when you need a structured reading path. Check every source before you rely on it.

Use Co-Writer for outlines, drafts, and study guides. Keep your voice. Do not paste a finished AI essay as your own.

Use Books (/app/learn/learning/books) or Courses (/app/learn/courses) when a topic needs chapters and a path you can return to.

Use Immersive Reading (/app/learn/learning/reading) when you have a PDF or article and want questions beside the text. Suggest a question is optional, labelled Uses AI tokens, and it leaves your draft unsent. See Co-Writer, Books, Courses, and Reading.

Use Library (/app/learn/resources) to find a source you already added, then use that item's action. Knowledge is how later chats answer from your notes.

Use RoxBot when you will ask the same subject the same way every week.

Use Roxy Tutor (/app/learn/ai-tutors) when you want a saved tutor for a subject you will return to. A quick question does not create one.

Use Subjects and My week when marks or the academic week are the problem, and the plan includes them.

Use Today (/app/study-command-center) for a permitted next step. It stays useful before any grades or timetable exist. See Today.

Use Progress (/app/progress) to read preparation and activity, checked learning, and official results as three separate sections. An empty section and a section that could not be loaded are both different from a zero score. The Planner and Tracker AI count is recorded Planner and Tracker requests for 30 days. Other AI use is on AI tokens.

Use ATAR Estimator to see a range and scaling direction. All tools marks it Scholar. The range is a planning figure.

Use Cell Studio to explore cell structures in 3D, then ask RoxWhy about the structure you focused. A finished investigation can be saved to an existing study task as a self-reported note. It does not create the task, mark it complete, or change a grade. All tools marks Cell Studio Scholar. See Cell Studio.

A good question versus a wasted one

Weak: "Help me with biology."

Better:

I am in Year 10 biology. We are on photosynthesis. Here is the worksheet question and my attempt. Tell me which step is wrong and ask me to try that step again before giving the answer.

Weak: "Write my English essay."

Better:

Assignment question: [paste]. Marking criteria: [paste the criteria, not the whole booklet]. Here is my thesis and first paragraph. Do not write the essay. Tell me if the thesis answers the question, and give me three evidence gaps to fix.

Weak: "Make me smart for the exam."

Better:

Quiz on Friday covering [list three topics]. Use my notes below. Make a Learning Pack: map the connections, then 8 mixed questions at quiz difficulty. Notes: [paste]

Bring your own material

RoxWhy gets sharper when it can see the same notes your teacher sees. Create a knowledge base per subject or assignment, not one folder for everything.

Good names: Year 9 Biology - Cells, English - Macbeth essay, Methods - calculus revision.

Upload notes, handouts, worksheets, a short reading, a draft, or the assignment criteria if you are allowed to. Do not upload other students' work, passwords, or anything your school forbids processing with AI.

Then say: "Answer from the [name] knowledge base first. If it is not in those files, say so."

Save the useful residue

After a session, keep:

• the explanation that finally made sense
• the question you missed
• the outline you will actually use
• the mistake you do not want to repeat

Learning Space holds notebooks and the question bank. Memory at /app/learn/memory keeps a summary you open with Edit summary and write with Save. A failed save leaves the draft on that summary. Preferences are the separate page /app/learn/preferences. Checking the answer still sits with you.

Check before you submit

• Does this match the assignment instructions and marking criteria?
• Can you explain it without looking at the chat?
• Did you rewrite in your own words?
• Does your school allow this use of AI?
• For marks that matter, ask a teacher or tutor.

When to message support

Use Contact if a mode errors, an upload never finishes, or a Tutor action does not match what you completed.

Include account email, subject, mode, RoxBot or knowledge base name, what you asked, and any error text.
