AI Tokens and Top-Ups
How RoxWhy AI tokens are used for tutoring, writing, retrieval, RoxBots, and AI-powered learning workflows.
AI Tokens and Top-Ups
RoxWhy uses AI tokens to meter AI-powered learning activity. AI tokens help parents and students understand capacity across tutoring, writing, retrieval, research, visualisation, and RoxBot workflows.
What uses AI tokens
AI tokens can be used by:
- Chat.
- Deep Solve.
- Quiz generation.
- Deep Research.
- Visualize.
- Co-Writer.
- Book Builder.
- RoxBots.
- Retrieval over uploaded knowledge bases.
- Memory and other AI-assisted workspace actions.
Why usage changes
Token usage is not the same for every message. It can increase when:
- A prompt is long.
- The conversation already has a lot of context.
- A large document or knowledge base is retrieved.
- The student asks for detailed reasoning.
- The workflow creates quizzes, research, writing, diagrams, or structured study material.
- A RoxBot uses memory, source context, or tools to answer.
Short questions usually use less capacity than long research, writing, or multi-step reasoning tasks.
Monthly tokens
Plans can include monthly AI tokens. These are intended for regular tutoring and study work. Monthly allowances are visible on the plan or account surfaces where enabled.
If a student studies heavily during exams or assignment periods, monthly tokens may run down faster than usual.
Top-ups
Top-ups add extra AI tokens when a heavy study session needs more capacity. Top-ups are available from Pricing and the in-app credits screen when active.
Before buying a top-up, check:
- The correct RoxWhy account is signed in.
- The student is using the expected plan.
- The top-up amount and price are correct.
- The payment provider opens successfully.
Failed purchases
If checkout fails:
- Do not retry repeatedly.
- Check the account email.
- Note the top-up amount or plan.
- Note the payment provider and approximate time.
- Contact support.
Use Contact or email support@roxwhy.com.
Unexpected usage
If usage looks higher than expected, include:
- Account email.
- Approximate date and time.
- Workflow used, such as Chat, Deep Solve, Quiz, Co-Writer, Book Builder, RoxBot, or Deep Research.
- Knowledge base or document involved.
- What the student asked RoxWhy to do.
- Screenshot or copied error text if available.
Long context, uploaded source retrieval, and advanced workflows can legitimately use more tokens. Support can help separate normal high usage from a technical issue.
Parent checklist
- Check the plan allowance before a heavy study period.
- Explain to the student that long research and writing tasks use more capacity.
- Use top-ups only when the student needs extra study capacity.
- Contact support before repeated failed checkout attempts.
