Parent Guide
How parents can set up RoxWhy, understand AI tokens and plans, help students use source material safely, and contact support.
Parent Guide
RoxWhy is AI study support for students. Parents usually need to know four things first: how the account is accessed, what the student can do in the workspace, how AI tokens and billing work, and what information to send support if something goes wrong.
What RoxWhy is for
Use RoxWhy when a student needs help turning class material into a clearer study process. The workspace can help with:
- Explaining a concept in plain language.
- Working through a difficult question step by step.
- Generating practice questions from notes or readings.
- Turning rough notes into outlines, summaries, and revision material.
- Creating RoxBots for subjects the student returns to often.
- Keeping source material in knowledge bases so future sessions have context.
RoxWhy does not replace a teacher, school instructions, marking criteria, or parental judgement. Students should still check work against class requirements before submitting it.
Set up the account
- Open Sign In.
- Enter the account email address and open the magic link.
- Use an email address you can access later for account recovery, billing, and support.
- Complete onboarding so the first learning session has the right starting context.
- Open the learning workspace from the app and start with one subject or assignment.
If a parent manages billing but a student uses the workspace, keep a record of which email address owns the RoxWhy account. Support uses that email to find plans, token balances, billing references, and message history.
Help a student start safely
Before the first study session, agree on what the student should and should not upload.
Good first uploads:
- Class notes and teacher handouts.
- Study guides, worksheets, slides, and reading extracts.
- Draft outlines or practice responses.
- Public articles or references the student is allowed to use.
Avoid uploading:
- Documents the student is not allowed to process with an AI tool.
- Other students' personal work.
- Unnecessary personal information, medical records, passwords, or full payment details.
- Copyrighted material where the student does not have permission to use it this way.
For sensitive material, remove names, addresses, ID numbers, and unrelated personal details where practical.
Understand AI tokens
RoxWhy uses AI tokens to meter AI-powered activity. Tokens can be used by chat, Deep Solve, Quiz, Deep Research, Visualize, Co-Writer, Book Builder, RoxBots, retrieval over uploaded sources, and other AI workflows.
Token use can be higher when:
- The student sends long prompts or long documents.
- A conversation carries a large amount of context.
- The student uses advanced reasoning, research, visualisation, or writing workflows.
- A RoxBot or knowledge base retrieves a lot of source material.
Plans can include monthly tokens. Top-ups add extra AI tokens when a heavy study period needs more capacity.
What to check regularly
- The student is using the correct account email.
- Knowledge bases are organised by subject or project.
- RoxBots have clear instructions and are not being used as a shortcut to submit unchecked work.
- AI-token usage matches the student's recent study activity.
- Billing, receipts, and top-ups are visible on the expected account.
Contact support
Use Support, Contact, or email support@roxwhy.com.
Include:
- The account email.
- Whether you are the parent, student, or account holder.
- The plan or top-up involved, if relevant.
- The subject, RoxBot, knowledge base, or document involved.
- What the student expected to happen.
- What happened instead, including any error text.
Do not send passwords, full card numbers, or documents containing unnecessary personal information.
