Paying and credits
How your plan and credits cover your linked students, what things cost, and how to see spend per student.
When you're linked to a student, you pay and they learn. Your plan, your credit balance and your payment details all live on your account. Your child never needs a card.
How credits work, in short
RoxWhy uses credits to pay for the AI behind every reply. A quick reply from a fast model usually costs a fraction of a credit; a long, detailed answer from the most capable model can cost several. The full explanation is in Credits and Top-Ups.
- Plan credits arrive with each billing period and reset at renewal. They don't roll over.
- Top-up credits come from one-off packs and last 12 months.
- Plan credits are used first, so top-ups last as long as possible.
One balance for the family
All your linked students share your balance. When your child uses RoxWhy, the credits come out of your account, and so does your own use if you open the learning app yourself.
Each plan covers a set number of students: one on Starter and Student, up to four on Family. Pending invites count towards the number.
To stop one child using everyone's credits, set a monthly limit for them on the Students page. When they reach it, RoxWhy tells them it's reached and asks them to talk to you; their brothers and sisters keep going. Limits count credits used this calendar month (UTC) and reset on the 1st. Leave the field empty for no limit.
Plans and top-ups
- Every account starts on the free Starter plan with a small monthly allowance.
- Paid plans give you more credits every month, billed monthly or yearly.
- Top-up packs are one-off: A$5 for 500 credits, A$10 for 1,000, A$20 for 2,100, or A$50 for 5,500.
All prices are in Australian dollars and include GST. Current plans are on the pricing page. Payments are processed securely by Stripe, which emails you a receipt for every payment.
When you buy a plan or top-up, you're confirming that you're 18 or older (or have a parent's or guardian's permission), as our Terms require.
Seeing spend per student
Your Students page lists each linked student with, for the current month:
- Credits used
- Calls: how many AI replies they've had
- Top models: which AI models they used most
- Last active: the last day they used RoxWhy

Changing or cancelling
- Change or cancel your plan any time from your account. Changes take effect at the end of the period you've paid for.
- If you unlink a student, their future usage stops coming from your credits immediately. They go back to the free Starter plan.
When credits run out
If your balance reaches zero, your linked students will see an "out of credits" message in the learning app until you top up or your plan renews. Their work is all still there.
