FAQ
Answers to the questions parents ask most about RoxWhy.
Accounts
Do I need my own account?
Yes. You sign in with your own email, and that's where your plan, credits and Students page live. You don't have to use the tutor yourself.
Does my child need their own email address?
Yes, every student signs in with their own email. If your child doesn't have one, use an alias of yours, like yourname+sam@gmail.com. See Setting up for your child.
How old does my child need to be?
RoxWhy is designed for Years 7–12. Students aged 14 or older can sign up on their own. Younger children should be set up by a parent or guardian, who adds them as a student.
Can I pay for more than one child?
Yes. Add each child from your Students page. They all share your credit balance, and you can see usage for each one.
My teenager already signed up. Can I take over paying?
Yes. Invite them from your Students page using the email they sign in with. When they accept, their unused top-up credits move to you, and any plan they were paying for ends at the end of the period they've already paid for.
What happens if we unlink?
Your child keeps their account, conversations and notes, and goes back to the free Starter plan, paying for themselves. Either of you can unlink at any time.
Privacy
Can I read my child's conversations?
No. You can see credits used, which models, how many replies and when they were last active, but not what they asked or the tutor's answers. Here's why we built it that way.
Can RoxWhy staff read them?
Only to help with a support request or when there's a safety concern, and every access is logged.
Where is our data stored?
In Australia, on Microsoft Azure. The AI companies behind the models (OpenAI and Anthropic) process the conversation to write each reply. See Safety and privacy.
Money
How much will it cost?
You can start free on Starter. After that it depends on how much your children use it and which models they choose. Paid plans include a monthly credit allowance, and top-up packs start at A$5. Prices are in Australian dollars and include GST. See the pricing page.
Can I set a limit for each child?
Not yet. For now, all linked students share your balance, and the Students page shows how much each one is using.
Do unused credits carry over?
Plan credits reset at each renewal. Top-up credits last 12 months. Plan credits are always used first.
How do I cancel?
From your account page, any time. Your plan continues to the end of the period you've paid for, then you move to Starter.
Can I get a refund?
See our Refund Policy. Your rights under Australian Consumer Law always apply.
Learning
Which curriculum does RoxWhy follow?
RoxWhy isn't tied to one state's curriculum. It can work from your child's own class notes and handouts, so it matches what their teacher is teaching.
Is it cheating?
Used well, no: it's like a patient tutor who explains things as many times as needed. Handing in AI-written work as your own is a different matter, and schools have their own rules. Our User Guide encourages students to use RoxWhy to understand, not to outsource.
Which AI does RoxWhy use?
Models from OpenAI and Anthropic. Your plan decides which ones your family can choose from.
