Selecting AI Models
One of the first things you'll do when using the RoxWhy Chat interface is choose which AI model to chat with. The Model Selector allows you to pick from various available models, each with different capabilities and specialties.
Using the Model Selector
The Model Selector is typically found at the top of a new chat conversation. Here's how to use it effectively:
Opening a New Chat
When you start a new conversation by clicking the New Chat button or icon in the interface, you'll see a dropdown menu labeled "Select a model."Choosing a Model
Click the dropdown to see a list of available AI models. Each model has a name and possibly an icon or description. Select the model you want to use for this conversation. For example, you might choose a general-purpose model like GPT-3.5 or a specialised one if available.
Setting a Default Model
If you always prefer a certain model, you can save it as your default:
1. Select your preferred model from the dropdown 2. Look for a "Set as default" option near the model selector 3. Click this option to remember your chosen model for future new chatsThis saves you from having to select the same model every time you start a new conversation.
Pinning Favorite Models
For quick access to models you use frequently, you can pin them:
1. In the model selector dropdown, look for a pin icon next to each model name 2. Click the pin icon for models you want to access quickly 3. Pinned models will appear in the sidebar under a Pinned Models section 4. Click on a pinned model in the sidebar to instantly start a new chat with that modelThis feature is especially useful if you regularly switch between different models for different types of tasks.
Model Capabilities
Different models may have different capabilities, such as:
- General knowledge: Basic facts and information across many domains
- Code generation: Specialised in writing and explaining code
- Creative writing: Better at generating creative content
- Reasoning: Enhanced logical reasoning capabilities
Experiment with different models to find which ones work best for your specific needs and use cases.
Best Practices
- Match the model to your task: Use specialised models for specific tasks when available
- Pin frequently used models: Save time by pinning models you use regularly
- Set a default: If you primarily use one model, set it as your default
- Try multiple models: For complex questions, sometimes getting perspectives from different models can be helpful
