Getting Started with the AI Researcher (Chatbot)
The Researcher is your AI chatbot and research assistant within the RoxWhy AI Notebook. It allows you to have natural, Q&A style conversations to explore any topic or ask detailed questions about your study materials.Key Capabilities
The AI Researcher offers several powerful features to enhance your learning experience:
Intelligent Q&A
You can ask questions about your uploaded notes or any topic and get comprehensive answers with cited sources. The AI pulls information from your documents, prior chats, and even the web (if enabled) to generate helpful responses.
Conversational Dialogue
The chatbot remembers context within a conversation. You can ask follow-up questions or request clarifications, and it will respond accordingly, building on previous interactions for a more natural dialogue.
Multi-Source Answers
The Researcher can combine information from multiple sources – your notes, external articles, and your conversation history – to give a well-rounded answer. For example, you might upload a textbook chapter and then ask the AI to explain a concept from it, with the answer also incorporating a definition from the web.

Here's an example of how you might use the AI Researcher:
You: What were the causes of World War I? AI: [Provides a detailed answer about the causes of WWI, possibly citing sources] You: Can you explain how alliance systems contributed to it? AI: [Elaborates on alliance systems specifically, building on the context from the previous answer]Tips for Effective Use
To get the most out of the AI Researcher:
Leverage Your Documents
If you have documents uploaded (see Document Management), the AI will automatically use them to inform its answers. This is great for asking questions about specific class notes or readings.Use Citations and Sources
You can copy parts of the AI's answer into your notes, or ask the AI to provide sources if needed. The system is designed to track citations and provide proper references for facts it uses.
Ask Follow-up Questions
Use follow-up questions to dive deeper into a topic. The more you converse, the better the AI understands what you need. Don't hesitate to ask for clarification or more examples if something isn't clear.
Be Specific
The more specific your questions, the more targeted the AI's responses will be. Instead of asking "Tell me about biology," try "Explain the process of photosynthesis in plants."
Check for Understanding
After receiving an explanation, test your understanding by asking the AI to quiz you on the topic or by summarising the information back to the AI in your own words.
